You’ll design our fire safety, and shape the nuclear industry.

The challenge A fast-evolving public corporation, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is committed to shaping the future of regulation in the UK nuclear industry. As a Fire Inspector, you’ll have a critical role. Your priority will be to assess the design of new nuclear facilities and enforce fire safety at existing UK nuclear sites. It’s a unique chance to shape the future of the entire UK nuclear industry. The role Our sites are bound by essential, relevant legislation, and it’s vital we enforce these guidelines and laws - especially when it comes to fire safety. In this role, you’ll visit a range of sites, using your expertise to assess fire strategies, risk assessments and review management arrangements. Always thinking ahead, you’ll approve plans for new nuclear constructions, consider the impact of modifications while checking our arrangements during decommissioning. Credible and respected, your specialist, technical advice will help other Nuclear Inspectors. You’ll become the go-to person for internal fire hazards, fire safety issues and emergency response capability. The person You’ll come to us with impressive experience of regulating fire safety within a hazardous industry. This’ll be supported by your extensive background in implementing fire safety solutions, and experience of working with architects and fire engineers when designing major developments. You’ll also have membership to the Institution of Fire Engineers, professional registration with the Engineering Council and a degree in Science, Engineering or Fire Engineering. An excellent communicator, you’ll work with a range of colleagues and stakeholders and foster strong working relationships. While you’ll have a collaborative ethos, you’ll also be confident when working independently – leaning on national fire safety standards and fire engineering principles. The rewards We offer competitive salaries at the ONR, with these roles attracting a salary of £37,951 - £45,442 (plus an additional £3,992 London Weighting Allowance if the successful individual is London based). Furthermore, you’ll be eligible for a substantial Civil Service Pension scheme (including ill-health retirement and lump sum family benefits).
