As ever the team have been busy and are pleased that the Board and International General Assembly (IGA) have approved the IFE’s new strategic plan and Programme for Change.
This heralds a new era for the IFE as we commence work on many new projects and initiatives to take us forward into a period of growth and stability.
Team members were pleased to have the opportunity to meet Board and IGA members as part of the recent IGA meetings which took place on 10th February in Stratford-upon-Avon, as well as spend more time with the Board Chair Grant Lupton AFSM BGS CFIFireE CPMgr FAIM and International President Bruce Varner CFIFireE who had both flown over for meetings throughout the week.
I am pleased to report that the online membership applications system continues to work well and the first Membership Applications Assessment Panel of the year was another record breaker in terms of graded membership applications.
If you have moved house recently or changed jobs, please remember to log onto MyIFE and update your details. This ensures any mail or emails we send arrive safely and you don’t miss out on any important updates or information. For those of you attached to an international branch or are on a UK Branch mailing list, please do not forget to include them with your updates.
If you have not yet paid your membership fees, these are now very overdue and membership and registration suspensions will shortly be taking place. We encourage you to pay online using the MyIFE Portal. For international branch members, please ensure you have paid via your branch in local currency, who will forward payments on to our Finance Team.
Fire Risk Registers
We are pleased to have delivered a successful information workshop on 5th March to many UK FRS representatives, who are looking at the IFE’s UK Fire Risk Register of Auditors for their fire safety staff.
We plan to run a ‘good practice and in-depth look at peer review interviewing’ event for our existing Fire Risk Assessor interviewers on 2nd April in Stratford-upon-Avon. We hope to see a good number of our existing interviewers attending this event, so please do respond to the email invitation you will have already received.
Engineering Council (EngC)
The first IFERG MC (Institution of Fire Engineers Registrant Group Membership Committee) meeting took place in January, with the Committee ratifying a good number of new registrants.
We are looking at initiatives to further enhance the EngTech offering and increase the number of registrants and graded members significantly by working with large employers. More on this in future update articles.
EngC Training Events – 30 April (new reviewers) and 22 October (good practice tbc)
EngC training dates have been set as above. The first event will be for new IEng/CEng reviewers and interviewers with the second possibly being a good practice day for existing reviewers needing to attend refresher training. If you are eligible please look out for an email invite and in the meantime, save the dates!
Future Developments and Programme for Change
Degree apprenticeships – we expect approximately 40 IEng registrants per year after an initial 5-year apprenticeship period via a Level 6 Fire Engineering degree apprenticeship.
Corporate Accounts – Steve Hamm is leading on these, with initial discussions mainly with FRS. More than 650 new Affiliate Individual memberships are expected in the next couple of months. There will be more news on this exciting development in the May IFP journal.
